MusikFest
Aug. 5th, 2006 | 12:16 am
So I woke up and spent most of the day reading Guns, Germs, and Steel It's a really neat book about how different geographical factors were really the main cause of European dominance throughout the world. I played a little Oblivion, and I screwed around on teh computer for a bit. then I went out to musikfest for a few hours tonight, it was pretty fun, but I didn't run into anyone I knew. I forgot my cell phone in my brother's room so I missed Carmen's call about hanging out sometime this weekend, and it turns out he was at Musikfest tonight too. Bleh. I'm sure I'll be at musikfest as much as possible the next few days so if you want to go let me know, we'll hook up or something. Red Elvises tomorrow, you know you don't want to miss them.

So, I'm in a good mood today. I went over to Billy's yesterday and we started working on a Talladega Nights shirt for him. The best part is that Billy convinced the Regal to reimburse us for the cost, so I got 5 bottles of paint out of this at least. Hmm, as you can tell from my lack of entries I haven't been in the most intro/retrospective of moods lately. I though this might have been a fairly in-depth entry but it isn't.

How NOT to steal a Sidekick
Jun. 7th, 2006 | 12:22 pm
"These guys not only kept the Sidekick they found in a taxi in NYC, but then took pics of their whole family with it as well as signing on to AOL. Note: I know this is on my own website, but I have no ads and am not making any money on this. NO outside links on this page other than to these people's info."
This is hilarious, check it out.

The Ireland Post

Well, Ireland was amazing. Just getting out of this country was an experience I won't forget. Ireland is beautiful - everything is green, and we were blessed with great weather. It only rained for two days (well, there were showers every day - but it was mostly sunny.)
I took over 600 pictures, and our group collected over 9k all told. I uploaded some of my mor einteresting pictures to photobook, and I do want to show the rest to everyone because I like talking about my trip, but I don't exactly like typing about it. My mouse is broken, so I'm using daniel's and therefore he can't use his computer while I type I'm on the computer, and I've been on long enough just going through my e-mail (I didn't check it until today - I got back on the 11th) I'm sorry I haven't been reading people's Livejournal posts or e-mails, but I sent most of you postcards. I think I botched a few honestly, so if you didn't get one you probably should have and I'll have to make it up somehow.
Since I got back I've been chilling with Daniel, and that's about it. I've watched a shitload of movies the last week and a half. Steve was supposed to come up, but his grandparents needed him. I voted for the first time a few days ago. I'm going out to wash my car as soon as my pictures finish uploading.

New York Again

I went to New York again on Friday. I spent between four to five hours in the Met and I still haven't seen everything I want to. I love that place. I didn't really get any worthwile pictures this time, dunno. I wound up eating at a Wendy's too, I guess that's the price I pay for spending so long at the Met. I was late for the play (which sucked, by the way...) even. Van ride home sucked, Frizz's quest room is an ice box. Whatever, I'm in a good mood, because I'm pretty sure a dream I had on the 18th is going to come true. One can hope, at least.
I leave for Ireland May 3rd. I'm so exited. I'm going to have a great time, take lots of pictures, and pick up gifts for people, I promise. Anyone looking for anything?
I need to update Vorpalsamovar.com.

No Subject?

First off, I'd appreciate it if my friends would stop posting with the subject of "(no subject)." Look, you don't even have to get off of your lazy ass to type a subject. Unless you type standing, man.
I saw Nausicaa on saturday and I have to say it really touched me. There was a brief moment that brought me close to tears. Not because it was sad, but because it was beautiful. Miyazaki really has a way of doing that, something that no other artist has ever done to me. I'd recommend it, but I still liked Castle in the Sky better. Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke are in a different class, I didn't for privilleged for having seen them, although I do have some memories attached to Spirited Away from Film Club. God I'm rambling, go see Nausicaa is what I'm saying, I guess.

The Return of Hans
Apr. 3rd, 2006 | 07:02 pm

So, I was up until five in the morning last night translating a manga by Hayao Miyazaki, why? Well it started when I was watching TV and I caught the last fifteen minutes of Castle in The Sky. Let me tell you that upset me. They advertise the shit out of Dumb and Dumber and then they don't mention that they're playing one of the greatest films of all time. Thanks. Then when they were done with that they said they were playing Nausicaa, which I've wanted to see. But I'd never seen a preview for it, it gave me goosebumps. It's post-apoc!@! Holy shit, Miyazaki does post-apoc! Miyazaki does post-apoc! Everytime at look at his work I want to cry at how beautiful it is, and I didn't even realize he'd done something in my favorite genre. God, I can't wait. So I realized I wasn't getting to sleep because I was so excited even though it's not playing until Saturday at 7:30. That's Saturday at 7:30. Seven-Thirty Pee Emm Cartoon Network. So I was actually looking for scans of the Nausicaa manga when I found something else he'd done titled "The Return of Hans." No, not that Hans. Hans the WWII panzer pilot trying to make it off the eastern front with Soviet Russia so he can surrender to the Americans. It opens the day of Germany's surrender. All I can tell is it's totally awesome and it's about five billion times more epic when you have to spend between one hour and two hours getting thorugh a page. I present you volume one of three of "The Return of Hans". Suggestions are welcome.

Hmm, the only thing that's important is that I shave my beard since I'm going to Ireland, and I don't want to look like an anarchist. It was done with much deliberation, and I really miss it. It was a little easier knowing Daniel had just shaved his. I'll start growing it back as soon as I return.
( Just curious, do I look better without it? )

I saw Crash in school today, and it was a very good movie. I've haven't seen Larenz Tate in anything since The Postman. I'm entering a life of crime by parking in visitors' parking because I'm too lazy to get a parking permit for the nine or ten more days of class I have. That's right, get excited, I only have class two days a week. Realizing that is sick.

Last night I learned how to make veggie burgers and tonight I learned how to make applesauce; I fucking love good eats. Alton Brown is hilarious, the recipes are great, and I really dig the whole scientific explaination thing. I just got a la la invite. It's this sweet sounding CD exchange thingy. www.lala.com so that's what I'm going to spend the rest of my night doing.

Alright, here's the deal. I just realized hundreds of universities across the country use the exact same exams for Astronomy 001. Yep, it's true. I'd give you proof, but I'm lazy. Needless to say, I got my astronomy take-home quiz done about two hours earlier this week. Take that, professor. Oh, the reasons I hate you.
I'm getting pretty excited for Ireland. Yes, indeed.

Alright, big news. I'm going to be slowly crawling out of the shit-hole that is AOL over the next month or so. So while I'm at it I'm jumping on the whole list of internet related things I've meant to do. Like get back into Flickr, and tag my links at del.icio.us...
I'm going into hell to retrieve my portfolio tape sometime soon. Mr. Hershey was quite helpful, really.
Alright so far I've got 46 of my links into del.icio.us, but their site went down I think, so I'll have to finish later.
I got $45 from the over $500 that parts from the burned up bike generated (that's 10% on the dad-scale.) Hrrrm. So I spent most of today cleaning up other parts. Interesting, eh? I put a few more pictures up on flickr, and I would link you but their site seems to be down as well. Yes, my internet is working properly...
When this was in it's infancy you might have enjoyed a segment called on the hand... it's back.
